The weather is gloomy and winter is around the corner and is there any possibility for Cricket?? Indeed, Indian Association Basel (IAB) organized an Indoor Cricket tournament “Índependence Cup” to celebrate India’s 75th year of Independence on December 3rd in Moehlin near Basel. Eight teams participated in this tournament and were divided into two groups.
Group A: Novartis Cricket Club, Zug Cricket Club, Zurich Lions Cricket Club – Team 1, Glatt Gladiators
Group B: Cricket Verein Zug, Cricket Club Wettingen, A1 Sports Club, Zurich Lions Cricket Club – Team 2
After the league stages, Cricket Verein Zug, Novartis Cricket Club from Group A and Cricket Club Wettingen,Zug Cricket Club from Group B qualified for the semi-finals. Cricket Verein Zug won the first semi final against Zug Cricket Club and Novartis Cricket Club won the second semi final against Cricket Club Wettingen.
Zurich Lions Cricket Club Team 1 and Glatt Gladiators competed for the 7th and 8th place spot: Zurich Lions Cricket Club Team 1 won that match comfortably. A1 Sports Club and Zurich Lions Cricket Club Team 2 competed for the 5th and 6th place spot: Zurich Lions Cricket Club Team 2 won the 5th place spot with ease. Cricket Club Wettingen and Zug Cricket Club competed for the 3rd place spot after losing their semi finals: Zug Cricket Club took the 3rd place by defeating Cricket Club Wettingen.
It was a clinical performance from Cricket Verein Zug (CVZ) in the final match against Novartis Cricket Club, they emerged as Winners of the 75th Independence Cup and Novartis Cricket Club emerged as runners up in the tournament. It was a gripping tournament with most of the matches lasting till the last ball.
Indian Association Basel (IAB) take this opportunity to thank all the clubs for their engagement, passion, energy and zeal and in the end Cricket was the ultimate winner. IAB wishes everyone an advance Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2023!!
